Claudia worked as an art therapist before transitioning to working in the environmental sector. During this time, she learned about the Tree of Life workshop. The workshop originated in Zimbabwe as a therapeutic intervention to assist communities grappling with trauma. This methodology, rooted in narrative therapy, empowers individuals to share their personal stories in ways that foster resilience and strength. It’s now used by practitioners worldwide.

In 2018, Claudia implemented this workshop in three Tamil communities in Sri Lanka that had been impacted by the horrific civil war that finished in 2009. As a result of the workshop, she was fed traditional food, experienced a voodoo ritual, and spoke to many community members about how the program had impacted the community’s collective story. In one community, their 4ft collaborative tree was hung in the local church.

After experiencing first-hand how a workshop could have such an incredible impact, Claudia has contemplated how to alter it to help people on their journey with environmentalism.

Environmental Fingerprints aims to take participants on a journey of self-reflection and transform their inner narrative through using the adapted Tree of Life workshop and curated journal prompts. Throughout the day, participants will also practise simple but effective wellness techniques that anyone can practise at home.

During the day, wear comfy clothes to move around quickly. Bring your favourite pen and a packed lunch unless you plan on buying food.

PUZZLE PIECES WORKSHOP

This workshop was realised after an inspirational and affirming talk by Kate Raworth, author of Doughnut Economics. She helped me accept the impossibility of taking on all the world’s problems in the face of many overwhelming and interconnecting issues.

I want to help others reckon with their fear of the future and make empowered choices aligning with their morals.

This workshop includes a guided meditation, personal journaling and a brief interactive introduction to doughnut economics. Then, participants will paint their puzzle pieces to remind them how they fit into the bigger picture.

EDUCATION

Claudia MacGregor has been educating people on topics related to climate and ecology since 2016. She has written educational children’s books, worked alongside councils to update educational material, taught in schools and universities, been invited into government departments to update environmental policy, and educated businesses on ecological topics.

Claudia blends her experiences with Psychology, Environmentalism and the Creative Industry in all her work. She believes utilising the arts in climate communication unifies understanding complex topics and is critical to unlocking people’s abilities to imagine a better future.

Therefore, when she came across the Climate Fresk, she was instantly hooked. She immediately became a facilitator and has since led workshops with businesses, University lecturers, Master’s students, community groups, local Councils, and charities.

The Climate Fresk is a world-renowned tool to teach climate science and solutions. It helps participants visualise the complexity of climate change through a collaborative, stimulating card game. The shared understanding of climate science and its impacts galvanises everyone from sceptics to scientists to make high-impact, achievable actions. Participants leave with a new lens to view the world. They will collectively work towards a new realistic narrative around plausible adaptations relevant to the group.
